Data Scientist – AI Reasoning & Biomedical Knowledge Engineering

Valvian is building a next-generation Artificial Intelligence platform to accelerate discovery in longevity and advanced therapeutics. We are recruiting Data Scientists to join the team working with Prof. Inês Dutra, focusing on symbolic AI, logical reasoning, multimodal biological data integration and the development of explainable discovery engines.

This role blends advanced machine learning, knowledge representation and biomedical data analysis, with direct impact on our antibody, cell therapy and healthy-aging pipelines.

Key Responsabilities

  • Develop machine learning and symbolic AI models for causal and explainable reasoning
  • Build and optimise pipelines for multi-omics, clinical and experimental data integration
  • Design knowledge graphs, ontologies and inference engines applied to glycobiology and longevity
  • Collaborate with biology, chemistry and bioinformatics teams to define datasets, features and analytical needs
  • Create analytical tools for target prioritisation, mechanism-of-action insights and efficacy prediction
  • Implement swarm-intelligence algorithms and hybrid neural + symbolic modules
  • Contribute to the architecture of the OTT-88 platform and reasoning modules developed with Prof. Inês Dutra
  • Ensure best practices in validation, version control, documentation and reproducibility

Required Qualifications

  • MSc or PhD in Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Biomedical Engineering or similar fields
  • Strong experience in Python and ML frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow, Scikit-learn)
  • Solid knowledge of statistical modelling, causal inference and interpretable ML
  • Experience with biomedical databases, ontologies and data integration
  • Familiarity with knowledge graphs, descriptive logic, Prolog or reasoning systems
  • Ability to work within multidisciplinary scientific teams

Preferred Experience

  • Experience with longevity, aging or systems-biology datasets
  • Experience with swarm-intelligence or nature-inspired algorithms
  • Background in ML pipelines for drug discovery
  • Experience working with multi-omics data
  • Previous academic or industry collaboration experience
